Solid Waste Management
My notes are based on a research I conducted on Solid Waste Management in slums in Kenya and Nakuru was the targeted location. Solid waste management in slum areas of Nakuru faces major challenges due to high population density, poor infrastructure, and limited municipal services. Many residents rely on informal waste collectors or resort to unsafe disposal methods such as open dumping and burning, which contribute to environmental pollution and health risks. Efforts by local authorities, NGOs, and community groups aim to improve waste collection, promote recycling, and raise awareness about proper waste disposal. However, sustainable solutions require greater investment, community involvement, and strengthened waste management systems.
