Information is a very important aspect in our day-to-day activities to ensure effective communication. As a result of this, information communication technology plays a great role to guarantee efficient and effective communication within and among different institutions and organizations. In response to this, each organization institution strives to make sure that there is as secure means of disseminating, storing and retrieving of information within their boundaries. With the use of computer systems, it becomes easier to run and effectively co-ordinate the operations of the department bearing in mind the environment under which it operates. Consequently, in this project, the researcher has displayed database development using the system development lifecycle to come up with a good database design for ease of operations within the department, using MySQL and PHP. The researcher used the following methods to collect data. The primary methods included; observation, interview, questionnaire and secondary method include; text books, magazines, journals and internet.

The Laundry Management System (LMS) is specifically developed for Kisii Best Laundry Shop. This application is developed to manage the laundry service and provide an automated backup and recovery for security management of information in the laundry. It is a client-server system which can only be access within the user manager. Only authorized user can login into the system and view the LMS application. The manager will maintain the backup and recovery and user privilege to view the system. Besides that, clerk's responsibility is to manage the customers and laundry service record, also the payment record. Furthermore, the laundress is to view customers' record and their services. Then, the manager of this laundry can view and update all the record in laundry. On the other hand, this LMS application is focused more on database management of laundry service besides maintaining the backup and recovery for the records in the database. The methodology of this system is System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) which is prototyping model. An analysis study has been done based on the current manual system and all the problems statements and requirements have been identified. Moreover, LMS is two-tier architecture system which involves client tier and application server tier which includes a database. The interfaces for LMS have been designed according to the requirement and needs of the current market. This Laundry Management System (LMS) will help to improve the performance of current situation and overcome the problems that arise nowadays.

Online Library Management System was a system, which was maintain the information about the books present in the library, their authors, the members of library to whom books are issued, library staff and all. Owing to the advancement of technology, organization of an Online Library becomes much simple. The Online Library Management was designed to computerize and automate the operations performed over the information about the members, book issues and returns and all other operations. This computerization of library was to help in many instances of its maintenance. It reduced the workload of management as most of the manual work done was reduced.

Categorizing youths in various groups may also consume a lot of time depending on the number of youths that may enroll. Purchase of sporting items manually may also lead to loss of items and stock might not be controlled effectively. Maintaining the record of items sold and stock in the store manually may lead to loss of records of items and also forgery which may result to loss. This project presents a theoretical framework of online medical laboratory system, it discussed about different scholar’s perspective of online laboratory system, the aim of this project to develop an online medical Laboratory booking system for patients to make lab booking at their convenient time because currently, Bliz Hospital uses a manual based system to keep record of customer’s booking and make new laboratory bookings. This project discussed the tool and technology used in developing the proposed system (the system has a front end by using html, Css, JavaScript to display the content structure and a back end of database using MySQL and PHP). Laboratory systems were compared to identify their similarities and differences. A number of development methodologies were discussed and why one of the methodologies was chosen for this project. Methods used to gather the requirement specification was also discussed and how the researcher will use this as a guideline in developing the proposed system. Diagrams were created describing each system. Demonstration of different WebPages available on the website was discussed and then an evaluation was conducting using two methods to evaluate the website.

The focus of this study was to analyze, design, develop, test, implement and evaluate a web application which is only be used by old age homes and old age people homes for managing records. The intended system was to manage records of old age people, guardians, adoptive parents, volunteers, donors, sponsors and the staff of these old age homes and the old age people homes. The system was to allow assignment of these old age people to their caretakers/guardians and those old age people that will be leaving to their adoptive parents (adoption). It was also to provide tracking old age people who have been adopted. It was not to cover the financial part of records but the module would be added at a later stage for a newer version.

Online Certification Verification system is an online system designed to computerize the process of verifying and authenticating Kisii National Polytechnic University’s issued academic documents considering the problems faced by doing this manually. Document Verification is the process of establishing the authenticity, validity, and accuracy of something such as the verification of official documents. Verification of academic certificates is one of the important research areas today. In this study, the documents in reference were the issued academic documents of Kisii National Polytechnic. This study was based on an effort towards the elimination of fake certificate academic documents or certificates. The study contributes towards solving problems in academic fraud. The manual system was studied carefully and relevant people were interviewed to collect the required information. The designed Certificate Verification system (prototype) allows easy retrieval of accurate and timely information basing on the supplied query for an effective and efficient academic document verification process. The system is secure, user friendly and can be accessed 24/7 from anywhere on demand. The system was designed in PHP. The study also focused on the application of the developed prototype as proof of concept, the system was able to verify the academic documents in question online using the unique serial number on each transcript matching it with sample data in the database. Kisii National Polytechnic requires such a system due to high demand of such services in the current high rate of advances in Technology use worldwide.

The assignments are allocated manually by the instructor to the students, which are either carried out in groups or by individual student. This manual management of assignment is becoming obsolete due to its inconvenience, inefficiency, and low accuracy. Currently, web-based management systems have been widely implemented due to the development of Web technologies. Therefore in other to effectively manage these assignment process, a well-designed assignment submission system is needed, hence the need for an online assignment submission system to facilitate the allocation, collection and marking of the assignments scripts. This project introduces a web-based Assignment Management System, which automates all the manual aspects of the conventional way of handling assignment. Its friendly user interfaces allow instructors and students to handle their assignments in a convenient, efficient, and simplified manner. In addition, this system also has very good features of portability and extensibility. The aim of this study was to create a web based online assignment submission system and the objective of the system is to facilitate easy interaction of Instructors and students for assignment allocation, submission and grading purposes. The system was created to eliminate the traditional process of allocating an assignment and collecting the feedback for the assignment. The system was implemented as a web based application through the useful tools of hypertext mark-up language, cascading style sheet and Java Script as the front end design while using MySQL database for storing and retrieving data as the back end tool. The implementation of this system was aimed at downloading and uploading online assignments for students, with each interface having information about the instructions and its description for easy access. The main goal of this project is to design and implement online assignment submission and provide an interface use for uploading and downloading assignment by instructors and the submission by the students, while the instructor also perform the task of grading each student submission automatically. This research project is aimed at computerizing all the records about Patients, Hospital and Doctors. In order to achieve this goal, a through System Study and investigation was carried out and data was collected and analyzed about the current system using document and data flow diagrams. The concept of report production has been computerized hence, no more delay in report generation to the Hospital, Patient and Doctors. Errors made on hand held calculators and dealt out completely. The method used to develop the system include iterative water full model approach, dataflow, logical and entity relationship diagram where used to design the system and finally the language used MySQL, PHP, HTML & CSS.
