Inventory Management
Inventories are carried mainly to meet forecasted demand, to protect against stock-outs and to
decouple (provide some independence between) the successive components of the
manufacturing-distribution systems. The main inventory types are raw material inventories,
work-in-process (WIP) inventories and finished goods inventories. This chapter is on inventory
planning for independent demand items. Independent demand items are finished products or
service parts sold to customers, whereas dependent demand items are components that are used
in the production of a finished product or other parent items. This chapter focuses on inventory
planning for independent demand items.

Business law
Business law is made up of the laws that set out the rights, duties and obligations of
people in business. Business law balances the interests of those in business and people like
producers and consumers, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers. It regulates business
transactions under the law of contract, which explains when an agreement will be legally
enforceable as a contract and is updated by competition and consumer law. It regulates
those engaged in business (companies, partnerships, etc), their names, their funding
(finance, credit), their banking and their insurance. Many aspects of criminal law (especially
property offences) and tort (especially the law of negligence) impact on business.

Business management
For a long time the topic of Emotions and Moods did not receive any attention in organisational
behaviour for two reasons:
The first is the myth of rationality. According to Robbins and Judge (2013) since the late
nineteenth century and the rise of scientific management, the rules at the workplace world
discouraged display of emotions and emphasized rationality. A well-run organization was one
that didn’t allow employees to express frustrations, fear, anger, love, hate, joy, grief, and similar
feelings. The prevailing thought was that such emotions were the antithesis of rationality. Even
though researchers and managers knew that emotions were an inseparable part of everyday life,
they tried to create organizations that were emotion-free. That, of course, wasn’t possible.
