Database management system (DBMS) are computer software applications that interact with the user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general-purpose DBMS is designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of databases. It’s a set of software programs that controls the organization, storage and retrieval of data (fields, records and files) in a database. It also controls the security and integrity of the database.

Welcome to the first Lesson on Gender Dimensions in Community Mobilization and Development. In this Lesson, we will define all concepts that we will use during the course. These concepts include sex, gender, community, community mobilizer, community mobilization, develop, development, community development and community participation. Understanding these basic concepts which we will use often will make it easier for you to understand the course. You will also start to see the connection between gender and community development. First we would like you to review the Lesson objectives, that is, what we expect you to achieve by the end of this Lesson.
