A graph is a visual method of illustrating the behaviour of a particular function. It is easy to see from a graph how as x changes, the value of f(x) is changing. The graph is thus much easier to understand and interpret than a table of values. For example by looking at a graph we can tell whether f(x) is increasing or decreasing as x increases or decreases. We can also tell whether the rate of change is slow or fast. Maximum and minimum values of the function can be seen at a glance. For particular values of x, it is easy to read the values of f(x) and vice versa i.e. graphs can be used for estimation purposes

Welcome to this module. You probably have heard about the term gender and society which are key terms in this course. You may have formed and developed your own versions of what the terms constitute. In this module, we will introduce you to the basic concepts in gender and society and why you should study it. This is an interactive instructional module that uses both action and collaborative learning styles that provide you with diverse online learning experiences and effective learning processes. The key purpose of this module is to expose you to the knowledge of what gender is and how it impacts the lives of both men and women in society. This should hopefully equip you with the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills when articulating gender related issues both in theory and practice.

The term criminology emanated from the word crime. Crime constitutes actions of omission or commission that contravenes the laws and regulations of the land. These actions and behaviors that are outlawed in the penal code have resulted in injury, death and even loss of property. Crime is a worldwide phenomenon that has assumed the centre-stage position in national and global politics. Indeed, the threat to life and property is real and threatens the very fabric that holds human society. Criminology therefore is the body of knowledge that looks at crime as a social phenomenon. It entails the scientific study of crime, criminals and the criminal justice system. Within its scope, it looks at among others, the process of making laws, law breaking, and societal reaction towards the breaking of laws.

To define the concept of community development effectively may require that the concept of development is equally defined. This is because the concept of development is rather problematic to define. Nevertheless the concept of development is best understood from two broad perspectives. One view is to see development as an end state – indeed a desirable goal to be attained. The implication of this perspective is that development becomes a package that has top be delivered in full for one to acknowledge that development has taken place For instance, if the desired end is a life where the needs of all members of a society are met, then this view would hold that unless all needs are met (and that means literally all needs without exception) then development has not taken place.

The term adolescence, derived from the Latin adolescere meaning "to grow up", can be defined as a transitional stage of physical and psychological human development that generally occurs during the period from puberty to adulthood . Adolescence describes the teenage years between 13 and 19 and is considered the transitional stage between childhood to adulthood. In the United States, adolescence is seen as a time to develop independence from parents while remaining connected to them.
