Description
This is a discipline that has developed as a result of very practical reasons in sense that:
1. They are essential means of a nation to achieve its educational goals and therefore
objectives that are dependent on series of activities planned for future.
2. As envisaged in changes that shape human societies to be individuals that can promote
development, education planning forms part of other societal planning. An example of a
development plan in Kenya is the Vision 2030 which includes plans such as; making
Kenya an industrialized country by the year 2020, documentation every five years on
fight against HIV and AIDS, environmental education and awareness.
3. Better utilization of limited resources by appropriate distribution and utilization.
4. Knowledge on economics plays an important role by having fundamentals of economics on scarcity of resources.
5. Planning is essential in solving emerging challenges in education. These include financial constraints, social and cultural interference, equity and efficiency.
6. Planner will endeavor to mitigate these by reducing wastage caused by drop outs and repeaters.

ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS
This textbook contains over 1000 worked problems, followed by some 1750 further problems (all with answers). The further problems are contained within some 220 Exercises; each Exercise follows on directly from the relevant section of work, every two or three pages. In addition, the text contains 238 multiple choice questions. Where at all possible, the problems mirror practical situations found in engineering and science. 500 line diagrams enhance the understanding of the theory.
At regular intervals throughout the text are some 18 Revision tests to check understanding. For example, Revision test 1 covers material contained in Chapters
1 to 4, Revision test 2 covers the material in Chapters 5 to 8, and so on. These Revision Tests do not have answers given since it is envisaged that lecturers could
set the tests for students to attempt as part of their course structure. Lecturers’ may obtain a complimentary set of solutions of the Revision Tests in an Instructor’s
Manual available from the publishers via the internet –see below. A list of Essential Formulae is included in the Instructor’s Manual for convenience of reference.
Learning by Example is at the heart of Engineering Mathematics 5th Edition.

Definition of the term “Law”
There is generally no acceptable definition of the word law. Different schools of Law define it differently. Some important definitions of law include: -
1. Woodrow Wilson, has defined law in the words “That portion of the established thought and habit
which has gained distinct and formal recognition in the shape of uniform laws, backed by authority and power of government”
2. According to Holland, “A law is a general rule of external human action enforced by sovereign political authority”
3. In the words of Salmond, “Law is a body of principles recognized and applied by the state in the administration of justice”.
4. Law may also be defined as” a rule of human conduct, imposed upon and enforced among the members of a given state”.
From the above definitions, we may conclude that law refers to “a set of rules or principles that govern the conduct of affairs in a given community at a given time, whereby machinery is provided for an aggrieved party to enforce his right in case any of these rules or principle is broken.
