9 From the Nine Worlds is a companion collection of nine short stories set in Rick Riordan’s Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard universe. Each story is narrated by a different side character—such as Samirah al-Abbas, Blitzen, or Alex Fierro—and takes place in one of the nine Norse realms while Magnus is away visiting his cousin, Annabeth. The Overarching Gag The stories are loosely tied together by a recurring appearance from Thor, who is jogging through all nine worlds to reach 10 million steps on his "FitnessKnut" tracker. At the end of the book, it is revealed he forgot to turn the device on and must redo the entire run. Story Summaries by Realm Asgard (Odin): Odin attempts to choose a new captain for the Valkyries but is briefly tricked by the giant Utgard-Loki. Midgard (Amir Fadlan): While shopping for an anniversary gift, Amir is tricked into wearing cursed pants made of human skin; Samirah and Alex eventually rescue him. Nidavellir (Blitzen): Blitzen must stop a dwarf named Alviss from assassinating Thor during his jog, using a portable tanning bed to petrify the attacker. Alfheim (Hearthstone): Hearthstone receives a distress signal from his friend Inge and travels home to defeat a troll using rune magic. Jotunheim (Samirah al-Abbas): Samirah is sent by Odin to verify if a legendary egg (a sign of Ragnarok) is hatching. She outsmarts a giant protector to confirm it remains uncracked. Helheim (Thomas Jefferson Jr.): The goddess Hel forces T.J. to recapture her blood-stained hound, Garm, by threatening his mother’s ghost. T.J. uses a mistletoe arrow to subdue the beast. Niflheim (Mallory Keen): Trapped in the icy world of mist, Mallory tricks the dragon Nidhogg into letting her pass by teaching him modern insults. Vanaheim (Halfborn Gunderson): Halfborn hunts dragons to collect scales for a mosaic gift for Mallory, ensuring the peaceful inhabitants that the dragons will eventually respawn. Muspellheim (Alex Fierro): Alex uncovers and sabotages a recruitment plot by the fire giant Surt. The story concludes with the entire group reuniting to help Alex drive Surt back into hiding.
